Spider Curl with EZ Bar

If you are looking for an effective way to train your biceps, the Spider Curl with an EZ bar is an excellent choice. This exercise is unique because your body position during execution keeps constant tension on your biceps, leading to more intense muscle activation and growth.

Execution

  1. 1
Begin by setting an incline bench to an angle of approximately 45 degrees.
  2. 2
Lie with your chest against the bench and your feet firmly on the floor for stability.
  3. 3
Grasp the EZ bar with a supinated grip (palms facing upward) at shoulder width.
  4. 4
Slowly lower the bar until your arms are fully extended.
  5. 5
Curl the bar upward toward your shoulders by moving only your forearms. Keep your upper arms still.
  6. 6
briefly hold the top position, then slowly lower the bar back to the starting position.

Benefits

  • Increased tension on the biceps due to the unique body position.
  • Reduced likelihood of cheating during the exercise due to the stability of the bench.
  • Improved focus on the biceps through isolation.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Using too much weight, which can lead to poor form and potential injuries.
  • ! Not fully extending the arms in the bottom position, which reduces the effectiveness of the exercise.
  • ! Moving the upper arms during the curl, which shifts the emphasis away from the biceps.

Primary Muscles

The Spider Curl primarily targets the biceps brachii, with secondary involvement of the brachialis and brachioradialis muscles.

Possible Alternatives

  • For a lighter variation, you can use dumbbells instead of an EZ bar.
  • To increase the intensity, try the exercise with a straight bar instead of an EZ bar.
  • If you do not have access to an incline bench, you can use a preacher bench for a similar exercise.
