Execution

  1. 1
Find a preacher bench and hold a dumbbell in one hand.
  2. 2
Place the back of your upper arm on the angled part of the bench. Make sure your arm is fully extended.
  3. 3
Inhale and curl the dumbbell upward toward your shoulder. Focus on contracting your biceps.
  4. 4
briefly hold at the top and exhale while slowly lowering the dumbbell to the starting position.
  5. 5
Repeat the movement for the desired number of repetitions, then switch arms.

Benefits

  • Isolation of the biceps for improved muscle definition.
  • Improved symmetry between both arms.
  • Increased focus on technique and muscle contraction.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Moving too quickly: Take your time with each repetition to achieve maximum muscle activation.
  • ! Using too much weight: Start with a lighter weight to ensure proper form and prevent injuries.
  • ! Not fully extending: Make sure your arm is fully extended with each repetition to stimulate complete muscle development.

Primary Muscles

The primary focus is on the biceps brachii. The brachialis and brachioradialis in the forearm are also trained secondarily.

Possible Alternatives

  • Use an EZ bar instead of a dumbbell for variation in grip and loading.
  • Add a twist at the top of the movement to intensify the biceps peak contraction.
  • Try performing the exercise seated without a preacher bench for a different angle and muscle activation.
