Execution

  1. 1
Find a preacher bench and hold a dumbbell in each hand with a neutral grip (palms facing each other).
  2. 2
Sit on the preacher bench and place your upper arms on the pad so they are fully supported.
  3. 3
Inhale and slowly lower the dumbbells under control until your arms are almost fully extended.
  4. 4
Exhale as you bring the dumbbells back up to the starting position by contracting your biceps. Make sure you maintain complete control of the movement.
  5. 5
Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Strengthens the biceps and forearms.
  • Improved grip strength.
  • More emphasis on the long head of the biceps for fuller development.
  • Training both arms simultaneously saves time.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Lowering the weights too quickly: use a controlled movement to prevent injuries and train the muscles effectively.
  • ! Using weights that are too heavy: this can lead to improper form and less effective training.
  • ! Not fully extending: make sure your arms are almost fully extended to achieve a full range of motion.

Target Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the biceps brachii, with additional emphasis on the long head of the biceps and the brachialis. The forearm muscles are also engaged during the movement.

Possible Alternatives

  • Single-Arm Dumbbell Hammer Preacher Curl: Train one arm at a time for greater focus and control.
  • Standing Hammer Curl: If you do not have access to a preacher bench, this standing variation can be a good alternative.
  • Increase the intensity through slower repetitions or by using heavier weights, provided you can maintain proper form.
