Execution

  1. 1
Set an adjustable bench to an angle of approximately 45 degrees.
  2. 2
Lean back against the bench and hold a dumbbell in each hand with a neutral grip (palms facing each other).
  3. 3
Let your arms hang fully at your sides.
  4. 4
Inhale and curl the dumbbells upward toward your shoulders while keeping your elbows and upper arms still.
  5. 5
Exhale as you reach the top position.
  6. 6
Slowly lower the dumbbells back to the starting position.

Benefits

  • Improves biceps isolation through the incline position.
  • Helps develop fuller biceps by emphasizing the lower portion.
  • Strengthens the grip and forearms through the hammer grip.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Performing the movement too quickly, which can lead to less muscle activation and possible injuries.
  • ! Using weights that are too heavy, causing technique to deteriorate.
  • ! Moving the elbows during the exercise, which reduces its effectiveness.

Main Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the biceps brachii, with secondary involvement from the brachialis and brachioradialis in the forearm.

Possible Alternatives

  • Standing Hammer Curls for a different variation without a bench.
  • Preacher Hammer Curls for greater stability and biceps isolation.
  • Increase or decrease the bench incline angle for variation in intensity and focus on the biceps.
