The Elbow Back Stretch is a simple but effective exercise for stretching the muscles in your shoulders, arms, and chest. This stretch helps improve flexibility and can reduce tension in the upper back.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Stretching too far, which can strain the neck. Make sure you remain comfortable during the stretch.

Instructions

  1. Begin by standing upright with your feet shoulder-width apart.
  2. Extend your arms and bring your hands together behind your head.
  3. Without bending your neck, try to push your elbows as far back as possible until you feel a good stretch in your shoulders and chest.
  4. Hold this position for 15 to 30 seconds.
  5. Release and repeat the stretch 2–3 times.

This exercise primarily targets the triceps, the backs of the shoulders, and the chest muscles.

Possible Alternatives

  • If the Elbow Back Stretch is too intense, try placing your hands on your lower back and pushing your elbows toward each other for a gentler stretch.
  • For a deeper stretch, use a towel or stretch band held with both hands behind your back, and slowly move your hands upward for more intensity.
