Execution

  1. 1
Begin by standing with your feet shoulder-width apart, a dumbbell in each hand, your arms at your sides, and your palms facing forward.
  2. 2
Inhale and keep your elbows close to your body, then bend both arms simultaneously to lift the dumbbells toward your shoulders.
  3. 3
Ensure that only your forearms move; your upper arms should remain still throughout the exercise.
  4. 4
When you reach the top of the movement, squeeze your biceps firmly.
  5. 5
Exhale and slowly and controllably lower the dumbbells back to the starting position.

Benefits

  • Effectively strengthens the biceps and forearms.
  • Improves grip strength and forearm strength.
  • Stimulates symmetrical development of the biceps.
  • Improves coordination and stability through the standing position.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Using too much weight, which can cause the body to swing or prevent you from performing the movement fully.
  • ! Moving the elbows forward or backward during the exercise, which reduces effectiveness and increases the risk of injury.
  • ! Not fully extending or bending the arms, resulting in reduced muscle activation.

Primary Muscles

The primary focus is on the biceps brachii. Secondary muscle groups engaged include the brachialis and brachioradialis in the forearms, as well as the deltoids for stability.

Possible Alternatives

  • Hammer curls: Hold the dumbbells with a neutral grip (palms facing each other) for a variation that places more emphasis on the brachialis and brachioradialis.
  • Concentration curls: Performed seated with the elbow against the inside of your thigh for more isolated biceps training.
  • Preacher curls: Performed on a preacher bench, this helps stabilize the movement and isolates the biceps even more.
