Execution

  1. 1
Lie on your back on a flat bench with a dumbbell in each hand. Your arms should be fully extended alongside your body with your palms facing upward.
  2. 2
Inhale and slowly bend your elbows to bring the dumbbells toward your shoulders. Keep your upper arms still and move only your forearms.
  3. 3
Exhale as you slowly return the dumbbells to the starting position.
  4. 4
Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Improves biceps isolation through the lying position, reducing the tendency to cheat.
  • Helps develop symmetry between both arms through the use of dumbbells.
  • Strengthens the grip and forearms through constant tension on the brachioradialis.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Performing the movement too quickly, which can result in less effective muscle activation and an increased risk of injury.
  • ! Moving the upper arms instead of only the forearms.
  • ! Not fully extending the arms in the starting and ending positions, resulting in a reduced range of motion.

Key Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the biceps brachii, while the brachialis and brachioradialis in the forearms are also trained.

Possible Alternatives

  • Hammer curls: For a variation that places more emphasis on the brachialis and brachioradialis.
  • Preacher curls: For more isolated biceps training with support for the upper arms.
  • Concentration curls: Excellent for maximizing peak contraction of the biceps with extra focus on the mind-muscle connection.
