Execution

  1. 1
Begin standing with your feet shoulder-width apart, holding a dumbbell in each hand with your palms facing forward.
  2. 2
Keep your elbows close to your body and lift the dumbbells by moving only your forearms.
  3. 3
Drag the dumbbells upward along your body as if you were pulling them up along your torso, until your biceps are fully contracted.
  4. 4
Slowly lower the dumbbells back to the starting position.

Benefits

  • Maximum isolation and contraction of the biceps.
  • Reduces the risk of injury through the controlled movement.
  • Improved grip strength from holding the dumbbells.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Lifting the weights too quickly. Focus on a slow, controlled movement.
  • ! Moving the elbows away from the body. Keep them close to your sides for maximum effectiveness.
  • ! Using weights that are too heavy, causing your technique to deteriorate. Start light and increase gradually.

Primary Muscles

The primary focus is on the biceps brachii. Secondary muscle groups engaged are the brachialis and brachioradialis.

Possible Alternatives

  • Barbell Drag Curl if you want to increase the intensity by using a heavier weight.
  • Dumbbell Hammer Curls for variation and to target the biceps in a slightly different way.
  • Concentration Curls for a more isolated approach to biceps training.
