Cable One-Arm Curl

The Cable One-Arm Curl is an effective exercise for improving the strength and definition of your biceps. Using a cable machine provides constant resistance throughout the movement, which leads to better muscle activation compared with traditional dumbbell curls.

Execution

  1. 1
Set the cable machine to the lowest position and attach a single handle to the cable.
  2. 2
Stand facing the machine and grip the handle with your palm facing upward.
  3. 3
Step backward until there is tension on the cable and position your feet hip-width apart.
  4. 4
Keep your elbow close to your body and bend your arm to bring the handle toward your shoulder. Make sure that only your forearm moves.
  5. 5
Slowly and controllably return the handle to the starting position.
  6. 6
Repeat the movement for the desired number of repetitions, then switch arms.

Benefits

  • Improved muscle definition and strength in the biceps.
  • The cable's constant resistance stimulates your muscles more effectively.
  • Helps improve symmetry between both arms by training them separately.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Using too much weight, causing you to swing your body. Focus on a weight you can handle with good form.
  • ! Allowing your elbow to move away from your body. Keep it close to your side for maximum effectiveness.
  • ! Performing the movement too quickly. A slow, controlled movement provides better muscle activation.

Primary Muscles

The primary muscle group trained with the Cable One-Arm Curl is the biceps brachii. The brachialis and brachioradialis are also engaged to a lesser extent.

Possible Alternatives

  • Standing biceps curl with dumbbells for a more traditional approach.
  • Hammer curls with dumbbells or cables to place more emphasis on the brachialis and brachioradialis.
  • Preacher curl with a cable machine for a more stable execution and focus on the lower part of the biceps.
