Execution

  1. 1
Set the cable machine to the lowest position and attach a straight bar or an EZ bar to the cable.
  2. 2
Stand facing the machine and grasp the bar with an underhand grip, keeping your hands close together.
  3. 3
Keep your elbows close to your body and your back straight.
  4. 4
Exhale and curl the bar upward toward your chest while moving only your forearms.
  5. 5
Hold the top position briefly and strongly contract your biceps.
  6. 6
Inhale and slowly and controllably return the bar to the starting position.

Benefits

  • Increased muscle activation due to constant cable tension.
  • Improved focus on the biceps through the close grip.
  • Less stress on the wrists compared with traditional curls.
  • Versatility in resistance levels through adjustments on the cable machine.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Using too much weight, causing your form to break down.
  • ! Moving your elbows during the exercise.
  • ! Lowering the weights too quickly, preventing the muscles from being trained optimally.

Targeted Muscles

The primary muscle group trained with the Cable Close-Grip Curl is the biceps. The forearm muscles and, to a lesser extent, the shoulder muscles are also engaged.

Possible Alternatives

  • Dumbbell hammer curls for variation in grip and muscle activation.
  • Preacher curls on a preacher bench for greater stability and focus on the lower portion of the biceps.
  • Standing barbell curls for training the biceps without a cable machine.
