Execution

  1. 1
Stand upright with your feet shoulder-width apart and hold a barbell with an underhand grip (palms facing upward), approximately shoulder-width apart.
  2. 2
Brace your abdominal muscles and keep your elbows close to your body.
  3. 3
Exhale and curl the barbell upward toward your chest while moving only your forearms.
  4. 4
Hold the top position briefly and strongly contract your biceps.
  5. 5
Inhale and slowly and controllably lower the barbell back to the starting position.

Benefits

  • Strengthens and enlarges the biceps.
  • Improves grip strength and forearm strength.
  • Helps improve overall arm aesthetics.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Using too much weight, causing you to swing your body. Focus on a weight that allows you to perform the exercise correctly.
  • ! Allowing the elbows to change position during the exercise. Keep them close to your body.
  • ! Lowering the weights too quickly. The downward movement should be slow and controlled.

Primary Muscles

The primary focus is on the biceps brachii. Secondary muscle groups engaged are the brachialis and brachioradialis in the forearms.

Possible Alternatives

  • Dumbbell Curls: For greater focus on each arm individually.
  • Hammer Curls: Focuses more on the brachialis and brachioradialis.
  • Preacher Curls: For stricter execution and isolation of the biceps.
