Fitness trends 2025: apps, data and strength training

| · 2 min read time

In 2025, wearable technology remained at the top. Mobile exercise apps rose to second place, bringing the digital side of fitness even closer to training.

Top 10 fitness trends in 2025

The ranking below follows the ACSM Worldwide Survey of Fitness Trends. We keep the original terms recognizable so the list remains easy to compare with other years.

  1. Wearable technology
  2. Mobile exercise apps
  3. Fitness programs for older adults
  4. Exercise for weight loss
  5. Traditional strength training
  6. HIIT
  7. Data-driven training technology
  8. Exercise for mental health
  9. Functional fitness training
  10. Health/wellness coaching

What stands out in 2025?

Apps in second place show that guidance more often happens through a screen. Planning, logging, reminders and analysis became part of the daily fitness experience.

Traditional strength training in fifth place confirms that classic strength training is not disappearing. Getting stronger remains a core need, even alongside apps and data.

Exercise for mental health and health/wellness coaching make clear that fitness is increasingly connected to lifestyle.

What does this mean for people who train?

For people who train, 2025 offered many tools to maintain behavior. Apps and wearables can make training more concrete, but the foundation remains an achievable plan.

Run your fitness business with more structure

Strength training and functional fitness are good counterparts to digital stimuli. They bring the focus back to execution, load and real progress.

What does this mean for gyms and coaches?

For clubs, digital guidance became a normal part of the proposition. An app without coaching is thin, however; the value lies in interpretation and follow-up.

Data-driven training requires clear agreements. Measure only what helps and translate numbers into actions that members understand.

How does 2025 fit into the longer trend?

2025 builds on the digital line of 2024. In 2026, wearables remain number 1, but balance, flow, core strength and recreational sports clubs stand out.
