Execution

  1. 1
Hold a dumbbell in one hand and place your other hand and the knee of the same leg on a bench.
  2. 2
Keep your back straight and parallel to the floor. Your arm holding the dumbbell should be bent so that the dumbbell is next to your chest.
  3. 3
Exhale and extend your arm behind you, keeping your elbow still.
  4. 4
Hold briefly when your arm is fully extended, then inhale as you slowly bring your arm back to the starting position.

Benefits

  • Strengthens and defines the triceps.
  • Improves arm stability and strength.
  • May help improve overall arm shape and function.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Moving the elbow during the exercise—keep it in place to ensure maximum isolation of the triceps.
  • ! Performing the movement too quickly—perform the exercise slowly and in a controlled manner to maximize effectiveness.

Important Muscles

The primary focus is on the triceps brachii. Secondary muscle groups involved are the deltoids (shoulders) and part of your back muscles.

Possible Alternatives

  • If the dumbbell kickback is too challenging, try a triceps extension with a resistance band as an alternative.
  • To increase the intensity, you can also use a heavier dumbbell or add more repetitions to your sets.
