Benefits

  • Strengthens and defines the triceps.
  • Improves overall arm strength.
  • May help improve performance in other exercises and sports.
  • Suitable for all fitness levels.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Keeping the elbows too far apart, which can lead to less effective training and possible injuries.
  • ! Performing the movement too quickly, placing more emphasis on momentum than muscular strength.
  • ! Not fully extending the arms at the top of the movement, which reduces the effectiveness of the exercise.

Primary Muscles

The primary focus of the Standing Triceps Extension is the triceps brachii. The forearms are also lightly trained through the grip strength required to hold the dumbbell.

Possible Alternatives

  • To increase the intensity, you can use a heavier dumbbell or switch to a cable machine for constant resistance.
  • For beginners or those recovering from an injury, the exercise can be performed with a lighter dumbbell or even without weight to practice the movement.
  • Another variation is the seated triceps extension, which provides more stability and reduces the risk of errors.
