Benefits

  • Improves triceps strength and definition.
  • Helps develop better arm and shoulder balance.
  • May contribute to improved performance in other exercises and sports.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Elbows too wide: Keep your elbows close to your head to maintain focus on the triceps.
  • ! Moving too quickly: Perform the movement in a controlled manner to achieve maximum muscle activation.
  • ! Weight too heavy: Start with a lighter weight to ensure proper form and prevent injuries.

Primary Muscles

The primary focus is on the triceps brachii. Secondary muscle groups involved are the deltoids (shoulders) and, to a lesser extent, the forearm muscles.

Possible Alternatives

  • Seated Dumbbell Overhead Extension: Performing the exercise seated allows you to focus more on the triceps without placing excessive demands on core stabilization.
  • One-arm Dumbbell Overhead Extension: For increased focus on each triceps muscle individually.
  • Cable Overhead Extension: Provides constant resistance throughout the movement, which may help further develop the triceps.
