Single-Arm Overhead Extension with Resistance Band

Looking for an effective exercise to add to your arm workout that not only strengthens your triceps but also improves your stability and coordination? Try the single-arm overhead extension with a resistance band. This exercise is unique because it requires you to work with one arm at a time, which helps correct muscle imbalances and increase focus on the triceps.

Execution

  1. 1
Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and place one end of the resistance band under your foot.
  2. 2

Bend your elbow and lower your hand behind your head, stretching the resistance band.
  5. 5
Slowly return to the starting position by straightening your arm.
  6. 6
Repeat the movement for the desired number of repetitions, then switch arms.

Benefits

  • Improves triceps strength and muscle mass.
  • Helps correct muscle imbalances between the arms.
  • Increases stability in the shoulders and upper arms.
  • Can be performed anywhere with just a resistance band.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Moving too quickly: Focus on a controlled movement to achieve maximum muscle activation.
  • ! Allowing the elbow to move too far outward: Keep your elbow close to your head for effective triceps isolation.
  • ! Using a resistance band that is too light: Make sure the band provides sufficient resistance for your strength level.

Target Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the triceps brachii, but also engages the deltoids (shoulders) and the muscles around the shoulder blades for stability.

Possible Alternatives

  • Increase the intensity by using a heavier resistance band.
  • For beginners: reduce the resistance by choosing a lighter band or stretching the band less.
  • Try performing the exercise seated for extra stability and focus on the triceps.
