Execution

  1. 1
Attach a rope to a high pulley on a cable machine.
  2. 2
Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and grasp the rope with both hands.
  3. 3
Keep your elbows close to your body and push the rope down until your arms are fully extended.
  4. 4
Slowly and in a controlled manner, allow the rope to rise again until your elbows are at an angle of approximately 90 degrees.
  5. 5
Repeat this movement for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Strengthening the triceps for better performance in other exercises such as the bench press.
  • Improved arm definition and muscle mass.
  • Increased stability in the shoulder joints.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Performing the movement too quickly: use a controlled movement to achieve maximum muscle activation.
  • ! Moving the elbows away from the body: keep your elbows close to your sides to maintain focus on the triceps.
  • ! Using too much weight: this can lead to poor form and potential injuries.

Primary Muscles

The primary focus of the Rope Pressdown is the triceps brachii. The forearms and, to a lesser extent, the shoulder muscles are also engaged.

Possible Alternatives

  • Triceps dips: for an exercise you can perform without equipment.
  • Overhead Triceps Extension: to target the triceps from a different angle.
  • Change the grip: use a straight bar instead of a rope for a different variation.
