Execution

  1. 1
Lie on your back on a flat bench with a dumbbell in one hand. You can stabilize your body with the other hand by placing it on your abdomen or the bench.
  2. 2
Extend the arm holding the dumbbell straight above your chest, with your palm facing forward in a supinated position.
  3. 3
Inhale and slowly bend your elbow to lower the dumbbell beside your head. Make sure that only your forearm moves.
  4. 4
Exhale and extend your arm back to the starting position.
  5. 5
Repeat for the desired number of repetitions before switching arms.

Benefits

  • Isolation of each triceps individually for balanced muscle development.
  • Improved muscle definition and strength of the triceps.
  • Increased focus on the triceps through the supinated grip.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Performing the movement too quickly, which can lead to less effective muscle activation and an increased risk of injury.
  • ! Not fully extending the arm in the top position, resulting in reduced triceps activation.
  • ! Using weights that are too heavy, causing technique to deteriorate.

Target Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the triceps brachii, but also engages the forearms and the stabilizing muscles of the shoulders.

Possible Alternatives

  • To increase the intensity, you can pause at the point where the triceps are under the most tension.
  • Beginners can perform the exercise without weight or with a lighter dumbbell to practice proper form.
  • One variation is the Dumbbell Lying Triceps Extension with both arms simultaneously, which provides a more stable execution but places less focus on isolating the individual triceps.
