Diamond Push-Up (On Knees)

The Diamond Push-Up (On Knees) is a variation of the traditional push-up that focuses on strengthening your upper body, with an emphasis on the triceps and chest muscles. Performing this exercise on your knees reduces the intensity, making it an excellent option for beginners or as part of a recovery routine.

Execution

  1. 1
Start on your knees and place your hands on the floor so that your thumbs and index fingers touch, forming a diamond shape.
  2. 2
Make sure your body forms a straight line from your knees to your head.
  3. 3
Slowly lower your body by bending your elbows until your chest almost touches the floor.
  4. 4
Push yourself up by straightening your arms until you return to the starting position.
  5. 5
Repeat the movement for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Strengthens and tones the triceps and chest muscles.
  • Improves muscle definition in the upper arms.
  • Increases core stability and strength.
  • Useful for improving overall push-up technique.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Going too deep: This can lead to overloading the shoulders. Make sure your chest almost, but not quite, touches the floor.
  • ! Elbows too far out: Keep your elbows close to your body to maintain the focus on the triceps.
  • ! Back not straight: A sagging or excessively rounded back can lead to injuries. Keep your body in a straight line.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the triceps and chest muscles (pectoralis major), and to a lesser extent the deltoids (shoulders) and core.

Possible Alternatives

  • For a lighter variation, perform the push-up against a wall or on an elevated surface.
  • To increase the intensity, try performing the exercise on your toes instead of your knees.
  • Vary your hand position to target different muscle groups.
