Seated Dumbbell Front Raise
The Seated Dumbbell Front Raise is an effective exercise for strengthening and toning your shoulders. This exercise is unique because it targets the anterior deltoids, contributing to better posture and shoulder stability.
Execution
-
1
Sit on a bench with your feet flat on the floor, approximately shoulder-width apart.
-
2
Hold a dumbbell in each hand with your palms facing you.
-
3
Inhale and slowly and controllably raise the dumbbells to shoulder height. Keep your elbows slightly bent.
-
4
Briefly hold the top position and exhale as you slowly lower the weights back to the starting position.
Benefits
- Improves shoulder stability and mobility.
- Helps develop balanced muscle mass around the shoulder girdle.
- May contribute to better posture by strengthening the shoulders.
Common Mistakes
- ! Performing the movement too quickly, which can reduce effectiveness and potentially cause injuries.
- ! Using weights that are too heavy, causing technique to deteriorate.
- ! Lifting the dumbbells too high, unnecessarily increasing pressure on the shoulders.
Targeted Muscles
The primary muscle group trained is the anterior deltoid. The trapezius and serratus anterior muscles are also lightly engaged as secondary muscles.
Possible Alternatives
- For a lighter variation, perform the exercise standing, which requires less stability.
- Use resistance bands instead of dumbbells for a different form of resistance.
- Increase the intensity by performing the exercise on an incline bench, which will challenge the anterior deltoids even more.
