Reverse Machine Fly
The Reverse Machine Fly is an effective exercise for strengthening the muscles in your upper back and shoulders. This exercise is unique because it targets the backs of your shoulders, an area often overlooked in traditional training.
Execution
-
1
Adjust the machine to your height and stand facing the machine.
-
2
Grasp the handles with your arms straight and your palms facing each other.
-
3
Lean slightly forward from your hips, keeping your back straight.
-
4
Exhale and pull the handles outward and backward until your hands are in line with your shoulders.
-
5
Briefly hold this position and inhale as you slowly return to the starting position.
-
6
Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.
Benefits
- Improves posture by strengthening the upper back and shoulders.
- Helps prevent shoulder injuries by balancing muscle strength around the shoulder joint.
- Increases functional strength that is useful for daily activities and other sports.
Common Mistakes
- ! Using too much weight, which can lead to poor form and possible injuries.
- ! Pulling the arms too far backward, which can place stress on the shoulders.
- ! Not using the full range of motion, which reduces the effectiveness of the exercise.
Target Muscles
This exercise primarily targets the posterior deltoids (backs of the shoulders), the rhomboids (between the shoulder blades), and the trapezius (upper back).
Possible Alternatives
- Reverse flyes with dumbbells for those who do not have access to a machine.
- Face pulls with a cable machine to train similar muscle groups from a slightly different angle.
- Band pull-aparts with a resistance band as an easily accessible and portable alternative.
