Plate Front Raise

The Plate Front Raise is an effective exercise for strengthening your shoulders and improving your posture. This exercise is unique because it targets the anterior deltoids with a simple movement that you can perform anywhere, as long as you have a weight plate or a similar object.

Execution

  1. 1
Stand upright with your feet shoulder-width apart and hold a weight plate with both hands. Your hands should be positioned in the center of the plate, with your thumbs pointing toward each other.
  2. 2
Inhale and, keeping your arms straight, raise the weight plate to shoulder height. Keep your elbows slightly bent to avoid placing pressure on your joints.
  3. 3
Briefly hold the top position, then slowly and controllably lower the weight back to the starting position.
  4. 4
Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Strengthens the shoulder girdle, contributing to better posture.
  • Improved muscle definition in the anterior deltoids.
  • May help reduce the risk of shoulder injuries by strengthening the surrounding muscles.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Performing the movement too quickly, which can lead to reduced effectiveness and an increased risk of injury.
  • ! Using too much weight, causing your technique to deteriorate and the wrong muscles to be engaged.
  • ! Lifting the weight too high, which can place unnecessary tension on the trapezius.

Primary Muscles

The primary muscle group trained with the Plate Front Raise is the anterior deltoids. The upper chest and trapezius are also engaged lightly.

Possible Alternatives

  • If you want to increase the intensity, you can perform the exercise with dumbbells instead of a weight plate.
  • For a lighter variation, you can perform the exercise with an elastic resistance band.
  • To add variety to your training, you can also perform lateral raises, which target the medial deltoids more.
