Execution

  1. 1
Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and place the resistance band under your feet. Hold the ends of the band with your palms facing each other.
  2. 2
Begin with your arms at your sides, lift them laterally to shoulder height, and smoothly transition into a shoulder press by bending your elbows and bringing your hands overhead.
  3. 3
Slowly and in a controlled manner, lower your arms back to the starting position at your sides.
  4. 4
Repeat this movement for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

The combination of a lateral raise and shoulder press strengthens and shapes the shoulders, improves posture, and increases functional strength for daily activities. Using a resistance band adds an element of resistance that adapts to your movement, making the exercise more effective without placing strain on the joints.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Performing the movements too quickly: Use a controlled movement to train the muscles effectively and prevent injuries.
  • ! Using a band that is too heavy: Start with lighter resistance to maintain proper form and gradually work your way up.
  • ! Shrugging the shoulders: Keep your shoulders low and relaxed to prevent tension in the neck.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the deltoids (shoulder muscles), with secondary involvement of the trapezius (neck and shoulder muscles), the serratus anterior (muscles along your ribs), and the triceps (back of your arms).

Possible Alternatives

To adjust the intensity, you can vary the thickness of the resistance band. A thicker band provides more resistance, while a thinner band makes the exercise easier. An alternative exercise is the standing dumbbell press, which provides similar muscle activation but with a different type of resistance.
