Inverted Push-Up
Introduction: The inverted push-up, also known as the handstand push-up, is an advanced bodyweight exercise that combines strength and balance. This exercise targets the upper-body muscles and improves your proprioception.
Execution: Begin with your hands on the floor, slightly wider than shoulder-width apart. Place your feet against a wall and walk your feet up while bringing your body into a handstand position. Keep your body straight from your hands to your feet. Slowly bend your elbows and lower your head toward the floor, keeping your elbows close to your body. Push yourself back up until your arms are straight. Keep your back and legs straight throughout the entire movement.
Primary Muscles: This exercise primarily trains your shoulders (deltoids), triceps, and upper chest muscles. Your core and supporting muscles in your back and legs are also engaged for stability.
Benefits: The inverted push-up helps build impressive shoulder strength and may contribute to better posture. It also increases functional strength that is useful for various sports and daily activities.
Common Mistakes: A common mistake is arching the back, which can lead to injuries. Make sure your body remains straight. Another mistake is placing your hands too far apart, which puts additional pressure on the shoulders.
Possible Alternatives: If the full handstand push-up is too challenging, try a pike push-up with your hips raised and your feet on the floor. This reduces the load while remaining an effective shoulder exercise.
