Benefits

  • Improves shoulder shape and definition.
  • Increases shoulder stability and mobility.
  • Helps prevent shoulder injuries by strengthening the surrounding muscles.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Performing the movement too quickly, which can reduce effectiveness and potentially cause injuries.
  • ! Using weights that are too heavy, causing your technique to deteriorate.
  • ! Lifting the dumbbells too high, placing unnecessary strain on the neck muscles.

Primary Muscles

The primary muscle group trained with lateral raises is the deltoids, particularly the middle deltoids. The upper trapezius and rotator cuff muscles are also engaged.

Possible Alternatives

  • Seated Lateral Raises: Performing the exercise while seated reduces the chance of using momentum from your body weight.
  • Cable Lateral Raises: Using a cable machine provides constant resistance throughout the entire movement.
  • Front Raises: Focuses more on the anterior deltoids for balanced shoulder development.
