Dumbbell Incline Front Raise
Want to train your shoulders effectively while also working on a strong upper back? The Dumbbell Incline Front Raise is an excellent choice. This exercise offers a unique way to isolate the front of your shoulders, while the incline position also activates your upper-back muscles.
Execution
-
1
Find an adjustable bench and set it to an angle of approximately 45 degrees.
-
2
Hold a dumbbell in each hand and sit with your chest against the bench backrest. Make sure your feet are firmly planted on the floor.
-
3
Let your arms hang straight down with the dumbbells beside your legs. This is your starting position.
-
4
Inhale and slowly and controlledly raise the dumbbells in front of you until your arms are parallel to the floor. Keep your elbows slightly bent.
-
5
Pause briefly at the top, then slowly lower the dumbbells back to the starting position while exhaling.
Benefits
- Isolation of the anterior deltoids for targeted muscle development.
- Improves shoulder stability by training the surrounding muscles.
- The incline position creates a unique angle that activates the muscles in a different way.
Common Mistakes
- ! Moving the weights up and down too quickly. Focus on a slow, controlled movement.
- ! Using weights that are too heavy, causing your technique to deteriorate. Start light and gradually increase the weight.
- ! Not keeping your back against the bench during the exercise. This can lead to unnecessary strain on the lower back.
Primary Muscles
This exercise primarily targets the anterior deltoids (the front of your shoulders). The upper chest muscles and trapezius (upper back) are also engaged to a lesser extent.
Possible Alternatives
- Standing Front Raise: For when you do not have access to an incline bench.
- Cable Front Raise: Provides constant resistance throughout the entire movement for an additional challenge.
- Plate Front Raise: Use a weight plate instead of dumbbells for grip and loading variation.
