Dumbbell Arnold Press (Version 2)
The Dumbbell Arnold Press is a dynamic shoulder exercise named after Arnold Schwarzenegger. This exercise combines a shoulder press with a rotational movement, providing a unique challenge and stimulation for the shoulder muscles.
Execution
-
1
Begin seated or standing with a straight back. Hold a dumbbell in each hand at shoulder height, with your palms facing you.
-
2
Inhale and press the dumbbells overhead by extending your arms. Rotate your wrists during this movement so that your palms face away from you at the end of the movement.
-
3
Slowly and under control, lower the dumbbells back to the starting position while exhaling.
-
4
Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.
Benefits
- Improves shoulder stability and strength.
- Stimulates the muscles from different angles through the rotational movement.
- May help improve overall shoulder mobility.
Common Mistakes
- ! Moving the weights up and down too quickly, which can lead to injuries. Focus on a controlled movement.
- ! Using weights that are too heavy, causing form to deteriorate. Start light and increase the weight gradually.
- ! Not keeping the back straight during the exercise. Maintain a stable and straight back to maximize the effectiveness of the exercise and prevent injuries.
Primary Muscles
The Dumbbell Arnold Press primarily targets the shoulder muscles (deltoids), but also engages the triceps and upper chest muscles during the movement.
Possible Alternatives
- If the Dumbbell Arnold Press is too challenging, try the standard shoulder press without the rotational movement.
- For an additional challenge and variation, try performing the exercise standing to engage the core muscles more.
- Use a resistance band instead of dumbbells for a different form of resistance.
