Cable Single Arm Lateral Raise
The Cable Single Arm Lateral Raise is an effective exercise for isolating and strengthening the shoulder muscles. This exercise helps improve muscle balance and symmetry between both shoulders.
Execution
-
1
Set the cable machine to the lowest position and attach a single handle.
-
2
Stand sideways to the machine with the machine on one side of you.
-
3
Grasp the handle with the hand farthest from the machine. You can place your other hand on your hip for balance.
-
4
Stand with your knees slightly bent and your back straight.
-
5
Raise your arm sideways to shoulder height, keeping your elbow slightly bent.
-
6
Slowly and in a controlled manner, lower your arm back to the starting position.
Benefits
- Improves shoulder muscle definition and symmetry.
- Increases the stability and strength of the shoulder joints.
- Isolating each shoulder individually helps correct muscle imbalances.
Common Mistakes
- ! Performing the movement too quickly: use a controlled movement to achieve maximum muscle activation.
- ! Using too much weight: this can lead to poor form and possible injuries.
- ! Lifting the arm too high: this can place pressure on the shoulders and should be avoided.
Primary Muscles
This exercise primarily targets the deltoid muscles, particularly the lateral deltoids. The trapezius and rotator cuff muscles are also lightly engaged.
Possible Alternatives
- Use a resistance band instead of a cable machine for a similar exercise at home.
- Perform the exercise with dumbbells for a variation that requires more stabilization.
- Gradually increase the resistance to raise the intensity as you become stronger.
