Cable Leaning Lateral Raise

The Cable Leaning Lateral Raise is an effective exercise for strengthening and defining the shoulder muscles. This exercise offers a unique way to isolate the deltoids by using the cable machine, providing constant resistance throughout the movement.

Execution

  1. 1
Set the cable machine to its lowest position and attach a single handle.
  2. 2
Stand beside the machine with your feet shoulder-width apart. Grip the handle with the hand farthest from the machine.
  3. 3
Lean away from the machine, placing the opposite leg slightly forward for balance. Keep your arm slightly bent.
  4. 4
Raise your arm out to the side until it is parallel to the floor, keeping your shoulders down and back.
  5. 5
Slowly and controllably return your arm to the starting position.
  6. 6
Repeat the movement for the desired number of repetitions before switching sides.

Benefits

  • Improves shoulder muscle definition and symmetry.
  • Increases the stability and strength of the shoulder joints.
  • Provides constant resistance, leading to more effective muscle activation.
  • Helps prevent injuries by strengthening the surrounding shoulder muscles.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Performing the movement too quickly: Use a slow and controlled movement to achieve maximum muscle activation.
  • ! Using too much weight: This can lead to improper form and potential injuries. Start light and gradually increase the weight.
  • ! Shrugging the shoulders: Keep your shoulders down and back to activate the correct muscles.

Primary Muscles

The primary focus of the Cable Leaning Lateral Raise is the lateral deltoids. The anterior and posterior deltoids, as well as the trapezius and serratus anterior muscles, are also trained indirectly.

Possible Alternatives

  • Dumbbell Lateral Raise: For when you do not have access to a cable machine.
  • Seated Cable Lateral Raise: For a more stable execution and less strain on the lower back.
  • Standing Cable Lateral Raise with both arms: For symmetrical training of both shoulders at the same time.
