Cable Bent-Over Rear Delt Fly
Introduction: The Cable Bent-Over Rear Delt Fly is an effective exercise for strengthening the backs of your shoulders. This exercise also helps improve posture by strengthening the muscles around your upper back.
Execution:
- Set the cable machine to a low position and attach handles to both cables.
- Stand in the middle of the cable machine facing it and grasp each handle with the opposite hand (right hand grips the left handle and left hand grips the right handle).
- Step backward until the cables are slightly taut and lean forward slightly from your hips, keeping your back straight.
- Inhale and pull the handles outward and upward, as if forming an inverted V with your arms, until your hands are approximately at shoulder height.
- Briefly hold this position and exhale while slowly returning the handles to the starting position.
Primary Muscles: This exercise primarily targets the rear deltoids (backs of the shoulders), but also engages the trapezius (upper back) and rhomboids (between the shoulder blades).
Benefits: In addition to strengthening your shoulders, this exercise also helps improve overall shoulder stability and may contribute to better posture and a lower risk of shoulder injuries.
Common Mistakes:
- Moving too quickly: Take your time with each repetition to ensure maximum muscle activation.
- Using too much weight: This can lead to poor form and possible injuries. Start light and increase the weight gradually.
- Not keeping your back straight: Make sure your back stays straight throughout the exercise to prevent back injuries.
Possible Alternatives: If a cable machine is not available, you can also perform this exercise with resistance bands or dumbbells. For an extra challenge, you can perform the exercise standing on one leg to train your balance as well.
