Execution

  1. 1
Begin by placing the barbell in front of your feet while standing with your feet shoulder-width apart.
  2. 2
Bend your knees slightly and grip the barbell with an overhand grip, with your hands slightly narrower than shoulder-width apart.
  3. 3
Keep your back straight and your gaze forward, lifting the barbell to just above shoulder height. Make sure your arms remain almost straight throughout the movement.
  4. 4
Slowly and controllably lower the barbell back to the starting position.

Benefits

  • Strengthening the shoulder girdle, which contributes to better performance in other exercises.
  • Improving posture by strengthening the muscles around the shoulders and upper back.
  • Increased shoulder stability, which may reduce the risk of injuries.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Performing the exercise too quickly, which can lead to reduced effectiveness and a higher risk of injuries.
  • ! Using too much weight, causing technique to deteriorate and the wrong muscles to be engaged.
  • ! Lifting the barbell too high, which can place unnecessary tension on the neck and shoulders.

Key Muscles

The primary focus of Barbell Front Raises is the anterior deltoids, the front of your shoulders. The upper chest muscles and trapezius, your upper back, are also engaged to a lesser extent.

Possible Alternatives

  • For a lighter variation, you can use dumbbells instead of a barbell.
  • To increase the intensity, try performing the exercise on one leg to improve your balance and core stability.
  • If you do not have access to weights, you can perform similar movements with resistance bands.
