  • Barbell Front Raises

Execution

  1. 1
Begin by holding a barbell with both hands, approximately shoulder-width apart. Your palms should face toward you.
  2. 2
Stand upright with your feet hip-width apart. Keep your back straight and your abdominal muscles engaged.
  3. 3
Inhale and slowly and controllably raise the barbell to shoulder height. Make sure your arms remain straight throughout the movement.
  4. 4
Briefly hold the top position, then slowly lower the barbell back to the starting position while exhaling.

Benefits

  • Strengthening the shoulder girdle, contributing to better posture.
  • Improving shoulder stability, which may help prevent injuries.
  • Increased muscle definition in the front of the shoulders.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Performing the exercise too quickly: Use a controlled movement to achieve maximum muscle activation.
  • ! Using too much weight: This can lead to poor form and possible injuries. Start light and gradually increase the weight.
  • ! Arching the back during the exercise: Keep your back straight to maximize the effectiveness of the exercise and prevent injuries.

Primary Muscles

The primary muscle group trained with front raises is the anterior deltoid. The upper chest muscles, or pectoralis major, and the trapezius muscles are also engaged to a lesser extent.

Possible Alternatives

  • Dumbbell Front Raises: For more isolated training of each shoulder individually.
  • Plate Front Raises: Use a weight plate instead of a barbell for variation in grip and intensity.
  • Cable Front Raises: For constant resistance throughout the movement, which may help further develop muscle strength and endurance.
