Stationary Bodyweight Lunges
Bodyweight lunges are an exercise to strengthen and tone the lower body. This exercise also helps build muscle mass and improves balance and coordination.
Execution
-
1
Begin with your feet hip-width apart.
-
2
Step forward with one leg while bending both knees to approximately 90-degree angles. Ensure that your front knee does not extend past your toes.
-
3
Keep your back straight and your chest up throughout the movement.
-
4
Push yourself back to the starting position by driving through the heel of your front foot.
-
5
Repeat the exercise with the other leg.
Benefits
- Improves body symmetry by training both legs equally.
- Increases core stability and balance.
- Improves hip flexibility.
Common Mistakes
- ! Leaning the upper body too far forward, which can place pressure on the back and knees.
- ! Allowing the knee of the front leg to travel too far over the toes.
- ! Not lowering deeply enough, which reduces the effectiveness of the exercise.
Target Muscles
This exercise primarily targets the quadriceps and gluteal muscles, while also training the hamstrings and calves.
Possible Alternatives
- Add weights such as dumbbells or a barbell to increase the intensity.
