Leg Press Machine Normal Stance
The Leg Press Machine with a normal stance is a popular exercise for strengthening your lower body. This exercise offers a safe and effective way to train your legs and glutes, with less risk of injury compared with free weights.
Execution
-
1
Sit on the leg press machine with your back and head comfortably against the backrest.
-
2
Place your feet shoulder-width apart on the platform.
-
3
Unlock the safety bars and bend your knees to allow the weight to come toward you. Keep your feet flat and your back against the backrest.
-
4
Push the platform away by straightening your legs. Make sure not to fully lock out your knees.
-
5
Controlledly return the weight to the starting position.
-
6
Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.
Benefits
- Improves the strength and size of the leg muscles.
- Helps build a strong foundation for other exercises and daily activities.
- The machine's support reduces the risk of back injuries.
Common Mistakes
- ! Using too much weight, causing your form to break down.
- ! Allowing the knees to cave too far inward or outward.
- ! Lowering or pushing up the platform too quickly.
Primary Muscles
This exercise primarily targets the quadriceps (front of the thighs), but the hamstrings (back of the thighs), glutes, and calves are also trained.
Possible Alternatives
- Change your foot position (wider or narrower) to emphasize different parts of the legs and glutes.
- Use one leg for the leg press to increase the intensity and improve stability.
- If the leg press machine is not available, squats or lunges with free weights can be a good alternative.
