Execution

  1. 1
Stand with your feet slightly wider than shoulder-width apart, with the kettlebell on the ground between your feet.
  2. 2
Bend your knees slightly and push your hips back while gripping the kettlebell with both hands.
  3. 3
Swing the kettlebell back between your legs and use the power of your hips to explosively bring the kettlebell forward and up to eye level.
  4. 4
Allow the kettlebell to swing back between your legs in a controlled movement while pushing your hips back again.
  5. 5
Repeat this movement for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Improves explosive power, especially in the hips and legs.
  • Increases endurance and cardiovascular capacity.
  • Helps burn fat due to the high intensity of the exercise.
  • Strengthens the core and improves lower-back stability.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Bending the knees too much as if performing a squat. Focus on pushing the hips back.
  • ! Swinging the kettlebell too high. The ideal height is eye level, not higher.
  • ! Failing to keep the back straight during the exercise, which can lead to injuries.

Primary Muscles

The kettlebell swing primarily trains the hamstrings, glutes, lower back, shoulders, and core.

Possible Alternatives

  • Single-arm kettlebell swing: Perform the swing with one arm at a time for an additional challenge to core stability.
  • American kettlebell swing: Swing the kettlebell all the way overhead for a greater range of motion.
  • Kettlebell deadlift: A good alternative if you are not yet ready for the dynamic movement of the swing.
