  • Front Lunges

Execution

  1. 1
Begin in a standing position with your feet hip-width apart.
  2. 2
Step forward with one leg, ensuring that your front knee does not extend past your toes.
  3. 3
Lower your hips until your back knee nearly touches the ground. Ensure that your front thigh is parallel to the ground.
  4. 4
Push yourself back to the starting position by driving through your front heel.
  5. 5
Repeat the movement with the other leg.

Benefits

  • Improved balance and coordination.
  • Strengthening of the muscles around the knees and ankles.
  • Increased flexibility in the hip flexors.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Leaning too far forward, which places too much pressure on the front knee.
  • ! Allowing the front knee to extend too far over the toes.
  • ! Not lowering far enough, which means the full range of motion is not used.

Primary Muscles

Front lunges primarily work the quadriceps (front of the thighs) and gluteus maximus (glutes). They also engage the hamstrings (back of the thighs) and core for stability.

Possible Alternatives

  • Reverse lunges for a less intense variation that is easier on the knees.
  • Walking lunges to make the exercise more dynamic and burn more calories.
  • Weighted lunges (dumbbells or a barbell) to increase the intensity.
