Execution

  1. 1
Begin with your feet hip-width apart and hold a dumbbell in each hand at your sides.
  2. 2
Step to the side with your left leg while pushing your hips back and bending your left leg. Keep your right leg straight.
  3. 3
Keep your chest lifted and your back straight. The dumbbells should move down alongside your left leg.
  4. 4
Push yourself back to the starting position and repeat the movement with your right leg.

Benefits

  • Improves lower-body strength and stability.
  • Helps develop better balance and coordination.
  • May contribute to better posture by strengthening the core.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Leaning too far forward, which puts strain on the back. Keep your back straight.
  • ! Allowing the knee of the bent leg to travel too far past the toes. Make sure your knee stays aligned with your foot.
  • ! Lifting your heels off the ground. Keep your heels firmly on the ground for stability.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the quadriceps and gluteus maximus. The hamstrings, adductors, and core muscles are also trained.

Possible Alternatives

  • For a lighter variation, you can perform the exercise without dumbbells.
  • To increase the intensity, you can use heavier dumbbells or add a lateral jump to the movement.
  • If you are looking for more variation, try the reverse lunge or the walking lunge.
