Benefits

The Bulgarian Split Squat helps build strength and muscle mass in your legs and glutes. It also improves your balance and stability, contributing to better performance in other sports and daily activities.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Leaning too far forward: This can lead to unnecessary pressure on your back and knees. Make sure you remain upright during the exercise.
  • ! Step too far: Stepping too far can lead to poor posture and a less effective workout. Find the right distance for your body.
  • ! Not lowering deeply enough: To get the most out of the exercise, it is important to lower yourself far enough so that your thigh is parallel to the floor.

Key Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the quadriceps and gluteus maximus of the front leg. The hamstrings and calf muscles are also engaged. The core muscles are also used for stability.

Possible Alternatives

  • Without an elevated surface: If you do not have an elevated surface available, you can perform the exercise by simply doing a lunge.
  • With weights: To increase the intensity, you can use dumbbells or a kettlebell during the exercise.
  • Increased difficulty: For an extra challenge, you can choose a higher elevated surface or place a resistance band around your thighs.
