Bodyweight Wall Squat
The Bodyweight Wall Squat is an effective exercise that helps strengthen your lower body without requiring weights. A unique benefit of this exercise is that it helps you maintain good posture and technique while focusing on the quadriceps, hamstrings, and glutes.
Execution
-
1
Find a flat wall and stand with your back against it. Keep your feet shoulder-width apart.
-
2
Walk your feet slightly forward so that you are in a seated position when you lower yourself. Your thighs should be parallel to the floor.
-
3
Keep your back pressed fully against the wall throughout the exercise.
-
4
Hold this position for as long as you can, aiming for at least 30 seconds.
-
5
Slowly stand up again to finish the exercise.
Benefits
The Bodyweight Wall Squat helps build strength and endurance in your lower body. It also improves your posture and balance, and because you do not need additional weights, it is a safe exercise that you can perform almost anywhere.
Common Mistakes
- ! Standing too far away from the wall, causing your knees to move too far past your toes.
- ! Not lowering yourself far enough, so that your thighs are not parallel to the floor.
- ! Not keeping your back against the wall, which leads to poor posture.
Target Muscles
This exercise primarily targets the quadriceps (front of the thighs), while the hamstrings (back of the thighs), glutes, and, to a lesser extent, the calves and core are also trained.
Possible Alternatives
To adjust the intensity of the Bodyweight Wall Squat, you can try several variations:
- Wall Squat with a ball between your back and the wall for additional stability.
- Single-Leg Wall Squat to increase the intensity and train each side separately.
- Wall Squat Hold with weights in your hands for additional resistance.
