Benefits

The Barbell Bulgarian Split Squat helps build unilateral strength and balance, which are crucial for athletic performance and daily activities. It also improves the flexibility of the hip flexors of the rear leg.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Leaning too far forward: This can cause pressure on the knees. Make sure your torso remains upright.
  • ! Stepping too far: An excessively long stance can lead to a loss of balance and poor posture.
  • ! Not lowering deeply enough: To get the most out of the exercise, try to lower until your knee almost touches the floor.

Main Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the quadriceps and gluteus maximus of the front leg. The hamstrings and core are also engaged for stability.

Possible Alternatives

  • Beginners can first perform the exercise without weights to find the correct form and balance.
  • To increase the intensity, you can use dumbbells instead of a barbell or add extra weight.
  • If a bench is too high, try a lower platform to adjust the difficulty level.
