Execution

  1. 1
Place a weight bench in the space and pick up a dumbbell suitable for your strength level.
  2. 2
Place your right knee and right hand on the bench so that your back is parallel to the floor. Make sure your neck is aligned with your spine.
  3. 3
With your free hand (left), pick up the dumbbell from the floor with your palm facing you.
  4. 4
Pull the dumbbell upward toward your hip while keeping your elbow close to your body. Squeeze your shoulder blades together at the top.
  5. 5
Slowly and in a controlled manner, lower the dumbbell back to the starting position.
  6. 6
Repeat the movement for the desired number of repetitions, then switch sides.

Benefits

  • Improved muscle balance and symmetry between both sides of the body.
  • Increased focus on the back muscles through isolation.
  • Strengthening of the core through stabilization during the exercise.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Using too much weight: This can lead to poor form and possible injuries. Start light and work your way up.
  • ! Not keeping your back straight: Make sure your back is straight and parallel to the floor to maximize effectiveness and prevent injuries.
  • ! Moving your elbow too far away from your body: This reduces the effectiveness for the back muscles. Keep your elbow close to your body.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the latissimus dorsi, but also engages the trapezius, rhomboids, and the rear shoulders (posterior deltoids). The biceps and forearms are also trained indirectly.

Possible Alternatives

  • To increase the intensity, you can use a heavier dumbbell or increase the number of repetitions.
  • For a lighter variation, you can perform the exercise without weights or with a resistance band.
  • Alternatively, you can also try the T-Bar Row or the traditional Bent-Over Row for variety in your training.
