Execution

  1. 1
Find a spacious area and place your exercise ball on the floor.
  2. 2
Kneel in front of the ball and place your hands on top of the ball with your fingers pointing outward.
  3. 3
Slowly lean forward and roll the ball away from you while pushing your hips backward. Your body should now form a straight line from your hands to your hips.
  4. 4
Hold this position when you feel a good stretch in your lats (latissimus dorsi). Make sure your back remains straight and does not collapse.
  5. 5
Stay in this position for 20 to 30 seconds, then slowly roll the ball toward you to finish the exercise.

Benefits

  • Improved flexibility and mobility of the upper back and shoulders.
  • Helps prevent back and shoulder pain by improving posture.
  • May improve performance in other exercises and daily activities through a greater range of motion.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Performing the exercise too quickly: Take your time moving into the stretch and hold it for maximum effectiveness.
  • ! Arching the back: Make sure your back remains straight throughout the exercise to prevent injuries.
  • ! Stretching too far: Listen to your body and do not force the stretch beyond your comfort zone.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the latissimus dorsi (lats). The trapezius (trapezius muscle), deltoids (shoulder muscles), and the muscles around the shoulder blades are also trained and stretched.

Possible Alternatives

  • If you do not have an exercise ball, you can perform a similar stretch by placing your hands on a low table or chair and making the same movement.
  • To increase the intensity, try performing the stretch with one arm at a time while letting the other arm hang alongside your body.
