Knee Flexes
Knee Flexes effectively work on the strength and flexibility of your leg and glute muscles. This exercise helps improve your balance and coordination, which are essential for everyday movements and other sports activities.
Execution:
- Begin in a standing position with your feet shoulder-width apart.
- Extend your arms in front of you for balance or place your hands on your hips.
- Bend your right knee and lift your right foot off the floor toward your glutes.
- Hold this position for a few seconds and keep your upper body upright.
- Slowly and in a controlled manner, lower your leg back to the starting position.
- Repeat the movement with your left foot and alternate sides.
Main Muscles:
- Hamstrings (back of the thighs)
- Gluteus maximus (glute muscles)
- Calf muscles
Benefits:
- Strengthens the muscles around the knees, which may help reduce knee pain.
- Improves the mobility and flexibility of the lower limbs.
- May help improve your performance in other exercises and sports.
Common Mistakes:
- Performing the exercise too quickly, which can lead to less effective muscle activation and an increased risk of injury.
- Not bending the knee fully, which means the hamstrings are not trained optimally.
- Leaning your upper body forward, which shifts the emphasis away from the intended muscle groups.
Possible Alternatives:
- To increase the intensity, you can use a resistance band around your ankles.
- If you want more of a challenge, try performing the exercise on one leg to further train your balance and coordination.
- For beginners, holding onto a chair or wall for additional support can help when performing the exercise.
