Single-Leg Glute Bridge

The Single-Leg Glute Bridge is a powerful exercise focused on strengthening your glutes and hamstrings. This variation of the traditional glute bridge places greater emphasis on individual leg strength and stability, making it an excellent choice for improving muscle imbalances and increasing the intensity of your workout.

Execution

  1. 1
Lie on your back with your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor. Keep your arms at your sides with your palms facing down.
  2. 2
Lift one leg and extend it. Keep your other foot firmly on the floor.
  3. 3
Engage your glutes and push your hips up toward the ceiling. Keep your body in a straight line from your shoulders to your knees.
  4. 4
Hold this position briefly, then slowly lower your hips back to the starting position.
  5. 5
Repeat the movement for the desired number of repetitions, then switch legs.

Benefits

  • Improves glute and hamstring strength and stability.
  • Helps correct muscle imbalances between the left and right sides of the body.
  • Increases core stability and supports better posture.
  • May help reduce back pain by strengthening the lower back and core.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Pushing the hips too high or too low. Keep a straight line from your shoulders to your knees at the highest point.
  • ! Failing to actively engage the glutes throughout the exercise.
  • ! Letting the extended leg drop, which can cause the hips to become uneven.

Primary Muscles

The Single-Leg Glute Bridge primarily targets the glutes (gluteus maximus, medius, and minimus) and the hamstrings. The core and lower back are also lightly trained for stability.

Possible Alternatives

  • To increase the intensity, you can place a weight on your pelvis during the exercise.
  • For a lighter variation, perform the traditional glute bridge with both feet remaining on the floor.
  • Use a resistance band around your thighs to increase the challenge for your glutes.
