Execution

  1. 1
Find a bench or elevated platform that you can lie on comfortably.
  2. 2
Lie on your back on the floor and place one foot on the bench while holding your other leg straight up.
  3. 3
Tense your glutes and push your hips upward through the foot resting on the bench. Ensure that your body forms a straight line from your shoulders to your knees.
  4. 4
Hold this position briefly, then slowly lower your hips back to the starting position.
  5. 5
Repeat the movement for the desired number of repetitions, then switch legs.

Benefits

  • Improves the strength and stability of the glutes and hamstrings.
  • Helps prevent injuries by strengthening the lower back and the muscles around the hips.
  • Isolating each leg separately helps correct muscle imbalances.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Pushing the hips too high, which can lead to overloading the lower back.
  • ! Not fully tensing the glutes during the exercise.
  • ! Placing the foot resting on the bench too far forward or backward, which can reduce the effectiveness of the exercise.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the glutes (gluteus maximus, medius, and minimus) and hamstrings. The core muscles are also lightly engaged for stability.

Possible Alternatives

  • To increase the intensity, you can place a weight on your hips during the exercise.
  • For a lighter variation, perform the exercise without using a bench by keeping both feet on the floor.
  • Use a stability ball instead of a bench for an additional balance and stability challenge.
