Execution

  1. 1
Find a bench or elevated platform that you can lie on comfortably with your upper back while keeping your feet flat on the floor.
  2. 2
Lie with your upper back on the bench and place your feet hip-width apart, close to your glutes.
  3. 3
Drive your hips upward toward the ceiling by contracting your glutes and hamstrings while keeping your back straight.
  4. 4
Hold this position for a few seconds, then slowly lower your hips back to the starting position.
  5. 5
Repeat the movement for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Effectively strengthens the glutes and hamstrings.
  • Improves core stability and balance.
  • May help reduce back pain by strengthening the lower back.
  • Improves posture through a stronger and more stable core.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Pushing too high: Overextending the hip lift can place unnecessary strain on the lower back. Ensure that your body forms a straight line from your shoulders to your knees at the top.
  • ! Using the back instead of the glutes: Ensure that you initiate and continue the movement with your glutes, not your lower back.

Muscles Worked

This exercise primarily targets the glutes (gluteus maximus, medius, and minimus) and hamstrings. The core (abdominal muscles and lower back) is also lightly trained for stability.

Possible Alternatives

  • For a lighter variation, you can perform the exercise without using an elevated platform, simply on the floor.
  • To increase the intensity, you can place a weight on your hips or keep one leg extended during the lift.
