Execution

  1. 1
Begin by setting the decline bench to an angle of approximately 15 to 30 degrees.
  2. 2
Lie on your back on the bench and hold a weight plate or small weight plate between your palms in front of your chest, with your elbows slightly bent.
  3. 3
Slowly press the plate upward until your arms are fully extended while keeping your palms pressed together.
  4. 4
Slowly and under control, lower the plate back to the starting position.
  5. 5
Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Strengthens and defines the lower chest muscles.
  • Helps develop balanced chest shape.
  • Improved stability and strength in the shoulders and triceps.
  • The decline position provides a unique angle that is difficult to achieve with traditional chest exercises.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Performing the movement too quickly: Use a slow and controlled movement to achieve maximum muscle activation.
  • ! Using weights that are too heavy: Start with a light weight to ensure proper form and prevent injuries.
  • ! Bending the elbows too much: Keep your elbows slightly bent but stable to maintain focus on the chest muscles.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the lower chest muscles (pectoralis major), while also engaging the triceps and shoulder muscles (deltoids) for stability and support during the movement.

Possible Alternatives

  • To increase the intensity, you can use heavier weights or increase the angle of the decline bench.
  • For a lighter variation, you can perform the exercise on a flat bench or with lighter weights.
  • Alternatively, you can also use dumbbells instead of a weight plate for slightly different muscle activation.
