Execution

  1. 1
Find a fixed point to attach your resistance band low to the ground.
  2. 2
Stand facing away from the anchor point and hold the ends of the band with both hands. Step forward until there is tension on the band.
  3. 3
Lean slightly forward from your hips and keep your back straight.
  4. 4
Begin with your arms straight and together in front of you, just above knee height.
  5. 5
Open your arms sideways and upward in a smooth arc until they are almost directly above your shoulders. Keep your elbows slightly bent.
  6. 6
Slowly and controllably return your arms to the starting position.
  7. 7
Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Improves chest muscle definition.
  • Helps develop better posture by strengthening the upper back and shoulders.
  • The upward movement provides extra stimulation to the lower chest muscles.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Performing the movement too quickly: use a controlled movement to achieve maximum muscle activation.
  • ! Using too much tension on the band, causing your technique to deteriorate: begin with less tension to maintain proper form.
  • ! Not keeping your back straight: prevent this by bending at your hips and activating your core.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the pectoralis major and, to a lesser extent, the shoulders (deltoids) and triceps.

Possible Alternatives

  • To increase the intensity, step farther away from the anchor point to create more tension on the band.
  • Use a band with higher resistance for more challenge.
  • For a lighter variation, reduce the distance to the anchor point or use a band with less resistance.
