Execution

  1. 1
Find a bench and set it to an angle of approximately 30 to 45 degrees.
  2. 2
Hold a dumbbell in each hand and lie on your back on the bench.
  3. 3
Hold the dumbbells at shoulder width with your palms facing forward.
  4. 4
Inhale and slowly lower the dumbbells to the sides of your chest.
  5. 5
Exhale as you press the dumbbells upward, back to the starting position.
  6. 6
Make sure to control the movement and engage your muscles during the exercise.

Benefits

  • Improves muscle definition in the upper chest.
  • Helps develop balanced chest muscle mass.
  • Strengthens the shoulders and triceps.
  • May help improve overall posture.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Performing the movement too quickly, which can lead to injuries.
  • ! Using weights that are too heavy, causing technique to deteriorate.
  • ! Lowering the dumbbells too far, which can place pressure on the shoulders.
  • ! Not fully extending your arms while pressing the dumbbells upward.

Key Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the upper chest muscles (pectoralis major), but also trains the triceps, shoulders (deltoids), and, to a lesser extent, the back muscles.

Possible Alternatives

  • Use a barbell instead of dumbbells for variation.
  • Change the bench angle to target different parts of the chest muscles.
  • Try the exercise with a neutral grip (palms facing each other) to involve the triceps more.
  • If you do not have access to a bench, you can perform a similar movement by lying on the floor and pressing the dumbbells in a glute bridge position.
