Execution

  1. 1
Lie flat on a bench with a dumbbell in each hand. Hold the dumbbells at shoulder width with your palms facing forward.
  2. 2
Inhale and slowly lower the dumbbells in a controlled movement until they almost touch the sides of your chest.
  3. 3
Exhale as you forcefully press the dumbbells back to the starting position without allowing the weights to collide at the top.
  4. 4
Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Improves chest muscle strength and mass.
  • Helps develop balanced muscle development between the left and right sides of the body.
  • Improves shoulder joint stability.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Pressing the dumbbells upward too quickly, which can lead to less muscle activation and an increased risk of injury.
  • ! Allowing the dumbbells to descend too far outward or inward, which can place unnecessary strain on the shoulders.
  • ! Not keeping the back flat on the bench, which reduces the effectiveness of the exercise and increases the risk of back injuries.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the pectoralis major, but also trains the triceps and anterior deltoids.

Possible Alternatives

  • To increase the intensity, try the incline dumbbell press for greater emphasis on the upper chest.
  • For beginners or those with shoulder problems, the dumbbell floor press may be a safer alternative.
  • Use a stability ball instead of a bench to engage the core more and improve stability.
